La serie "Starsky & Hutch" nasce negli studi californiani della 20th Century Fox, il 10 settembre 1975.
Prodotta da Aaron Spelling e Leonard Goldberg fa il suo debutto su ABC proprio in quell’anno. La serie ebbe una nomination al Golden Globe nel 1978, ma il premio non fu "portato a casa". Il creatore, William Blìnn, e produttori dovettero difendersi dalle accuse di alcune associazioni di genitori e insegnanti per la violenza gratuita del serial (infatti, dalla terza stagione in poi le storie appariranno meno esplicite).
Questo serial, di genere avventuroso, narra le vicende di due poliziotti in borghese di Los Angeles alle prese 24 ore su 24 e giorno dopo giorno, con i pericoli della criminalità dei sobborghi in una città spesso ostile, tra sgommate e testacoda della loro automobile bordeaux fiammante con la quale sono in servizio, Zebra 3 (una Ford gran Torino del 1974).
Agenti speciali, colleghi anche nella vita e senza segreti, Dave Starsky (Paul Michel Glaser) e Ken Hutchinson (David Soul) detto Hutch, sono i due protagonisti della serie, due uomini audaci, allegri e acrobatici, possiedono caratteri opposti e si compensano a vicenda in maniera tale da sembrare un'unica persona, soprattutto per l’amicizia che li lega: il primo, il riccioluto bruno istintivo ed impulsivo, uomo di azione e imprevedibilità, indossa jeans e giubbotto di pelle mentre il secondo, biondo e dotato di un grande intuito, è normalmente colui che nella maggior parte dei casi trova le soluzioni più intricate fino al bandolo della matassa.
Starsky che è l’uomo della strada che ha vissuto le difficoltà di chi nasce nel ghetto, Hutch è il tipo fine, ben educato, vestito in maniera sobria e dall’inglese perfetto. Entrambi rispondono agli ordini del simpatico, un po’ rude ma dal cuore d’oro, burbero capitano Harold Dobey (Bernie Hamilton), che non esita a difenderli quando diventa necessario, e il famoso informatore di colore, dinoccolato e "fumato" Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas), che grazie alle sue "soffiate" aiuta i due protagonisti a seguire le tracce dei malfattori più svariati: ladri d'auto che diventano assassini per caso, rapinatori disperati, ricettatori di periferia, manager d'azienda che smerciano droga in giacca e cravatta...
Lo stile della serie è decisamente anni 70; giubbotti di pelle, camicie fuori dai pantaloni a zampa d'elefante, scarpe da ginnastica Adidas dominano la scena. Ma non sono gli unici elementi ke hanno caratterizzaro il successo intramontabile della serie; acrobazie, salti nel vuoto, carambole sulle automobili in corsa, inseguimenti impossibili alla ricerca del malvivente perduto.
Spesso riescono a farsi del male anche seriamente ma gli eroi sono duri a morire. E sono proprio degli eroi ma dal volto umano. Nel corso degli episodi sparano e sono a loro volta colpiti da killer, uomini appena usciti di prigione, maniaci assassini. Piangono, ridono, raccontano orribile barzellette, insultano, picchiano senza sosta. Spesso si travestono per agire in incognito. Sebbene le storie e le caratteristiche dei personaggi appaiano un po’ datate, la sceneggiatura è costruita in maniera abile tanto da sopravvivere nel corso di decenni. La serie è violenta ma senza mostrare troppo sangue. Il punto di forza del serial è l’ incredibile alchimia tra i due attori protagonisti. che mettono in risalto anche al privato, mai noiosa, vita da "scapoli incalliti".
Nell'episodio pilota, 10 settembre 1975, i detective indagano sulla morte di due uomini, uccisi misteriosamente.
Nell'ultimo episodio, 15 maggio 1979, inizialmente, l'agente Starsky doveva morire vittima dell'ultima impresa, ma gli sceneggiatori

Dave Starsky è cresciuto per strada, ha dovuto imparare a combattere per sopravvivere, specie dopo la morte del padre, ucciso quando lui era ancora un bambino e che lo ha posto di fronte alla responsabilità di dover prendersi cura della madre e del suo fratellino. Cresciuto Starsky viene mandato a vivere da una zia in California e successivamente decide di arruolarsi nell'esercito, prestando anche servizio in Vietnam. Tornato dalla guerra Dave si iscriverà all'Accademia di Polizia della California, dove conoscerà quello che diventerà il suo amico e collega Ken Hutchinson.
Hutch, al contrario di Stursky, è cresciuto in Minnesota in un ambiente familiare agiato, con un padre che sognava di affidargli la conduzione dell'azienda familiare. Il ragazzo però voleva per se una vita differente, e dopo poco abbandona il college per entrare nell'Accademia di Polizia. Hutch sposerà presto Vanessa ma il suo matrimonio durerà poco come tutte le storie che nel corso della serie si succederanno per il nostro eroe che tenderà ad innamorarsi follemente sempre di donne sbagliate.
Anche nello stile di vita i due amici saranno molto diversi e mentre Starsky si nutre di hot-dog nei fast food Hutch segue diete macrobiotiche e si prende cura del suo corpo.

A man who was charged with aggravated rape after a 17-year-old girl on camping trip was assaulted by him, and left for dead at a park near his home will not face further charges, York Regional Police said Thursday.
The teen told police he drugged the girl with a drug, walked her to secluded area of the Rosedale Marsh, raped her and left there, police said.
But, in a joint investigation by YPA and York Regional Police, investigators were able to obtain video generic for escitalopram and audio recording from various locations where he claimed to have assaulted the girl, and identified another woman as a possible witness who "had an opportunity to intervene and prevent the attack."
"As a result of this investigation police are satisfied that the allegations against suspect are proven and he will not face further charges," said Staff Sgt. Steve Hickey, head of the Sexual Assault Squad York Regional Police.
The 17-year-old girl is a whose identity cannot be revealed at the request of her family to protect their privacy, said a spokesperson for the York Regional Police.
The girl told officers that in the early morning of Friday, July 22, around 1 a.m., she had been drinking with friends in Yonge-Dundas Square. According to police, three men joined them and two, who were not named, then sexually assaulted the girl.
One of the men also allegedly took girl's keys and left. She was eventually picked up by a friend outside the Square and found a short distance away near the Dockside Park.
Hickey said it wasn't until a later date that other witnesses showed up, including the unnamed witness who helped victim get home, the unnamed female who saw her attacker and the unnamed man who allegedly picked her up.
Investigators spoke to the witnesses and man who allegedly picked her up, had not been charged at the time.
Investigators determined that the accused did not know 17-year-old.
Police obtained a search warrant and recovered video digital recordings from various locations, including the girl's phone. Police also collected DNA samples of the accused.
They also obtained surveillance video from Rosedale Park, which they used to place the accused in front of victim. The video showed him on same trail where he claimed to have assaulted the girl.
With the video footage and DNA evidence, investigators were able to identify and speak an unknown male, who was in an adjoining room at the campground. In video, one of the accused looked out window and could be seen walking by one of the windows to get a closer look. This is where the male allegedly walked into Rosedale Park, police said.

While solar cycles that lead to ice age and polar warming are thought to last less than a century, the latest research suggests a peak in solar dynamo activity may last another 12 months to two years.
The recent surge in stellar activity can be seen through NASA's Total Solar Irradiance Monitor (TSIM). The US space agency has been tracking these fluctuations for 30 years.
